Since 2004, the AMBA liveaboard has been an integral part of the Maldives' diving scene. This 34m long, 10m wide vessel is renowned for its reliability, comfort, and charm. A standout among dive ships, the AMBA combines its exceptional management with an outstanding crew, delivering an unforgettable experience for divers. Sailing through the Maldives' central and northern atolls, it offers access to some of the most pristine waters and vibrant marine ecosystems in the world. The AMBA accommodates 21 divers and caters to small groups, ensuring personalized service and a convivial atmosphere. It’s a gateway to unparalleled underwater adventures, paired with top-tier amenities for a truly luxurious liveaboard experience
Every detail of the AMBA is designed to provide comfort and convenience after a day of diving. The cabins are spacious and thoughtfully appointed, each featuring an ensuite bathroom with hot water, a sink, and a Western-style toilet. Individually controlled air conditioning and fans ensure guests can tailor their sleeping environment to their preferences. For those seeking a premium experience, the upper deck boasts two luxury cabins with private terraces and double beds, offering stunning views of the Indian Ocean. Another upper-deck cabin with a double bed and a bunk-bed cabin provide additional options, though they are slightly smaller than the terrace suites. Solo travelers can enjoy a single cabin, also on the upper deck. The lower deck hosts seven cabins that can be configured with double or single beds, ideal for couples or friends traveling together. Each bed is outfitted with high-quality linens, fluffy blankets, and plush pillows. Daily housekeeping and evening room checks keep the cabins fresh and inviting.
The AMBA’s communal areas are designed to blend relaxation and socialization seamlessly. The dining room–salon–is the heart of the ship, offering seating for all guests at two large tables. This air-conditioned space is where delicious meals are served and dive briefings are held. Guests can also unwind with a large flat-screen TV or use private charging compartments for electronics and cameras. Three freshly prepared meals each day showcase a fusion of Western, Asian, Maldivian, Bengali, and Indian flavors, crafted with local ingredients. The onboard culinary team has years of experience and excels in catering to diverse dietary preferences, including vegetarian and vegan options (with prior notice). Freshly caught fish is often featured on the menu, and a curated selection of spirits, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages is available for purchase.
On deck, the AMBA offers an array of spaces to unwind. The aft deck provides a shaded haven, perfect for relaxing between dives or soaking in the evening views of the Indian Ocean. For sun lovers, the partially covered sundeck has nearly 20 individual lounging areas, complete with outdoor mattresses and sunbeds. Whether you’re seeking direct sunlight or gentle shade, there’s a spot waiting for you. Music can be played on request for those looking to fuel their adventure with a soundtrack, but typically this is kept to a minimum to maintain a peaceful bliss onboard.
Diving aboard the AMBA is nothing short of extraordinary, with the ship providing access to some of the Maldives’ most famous dive sites. The "Best of Central" and "Summer Tour" itineraries focus on the central atolls, while the "Best of North" tour ventures to the more remote Hanimaadhoo region. Transfers between Male and Hanimaadhoo include seamless arrangements for domestic flights, managed by the operator. Safety and professionalism are paramount, and AMBA is the only liveaboard in the Maldives equipped with Bauer’s Pure Air-certified filling station. This ensures that all tanks are filled with clean, high-quality air, adhering to rigorous standards monitored and tested regularly.
All “Best of Central” and “Summer Tour” crises start in Male and end in Male, the capital of the Maldives. Guests are picked up from the airport and returned at the end of the charter. Domestic flights do not have to be booked for the “Best of Central” and “Summer” tours. The “Best of North” tours start on the outward journey to Hanimaadhoo by boat from the home port in Male. The return journey is by domestic flight. The subsequent tour therefore starts in the north in Hanimaadhoo and the tour returns to Male by boat. Domestic flights are booked by the ship operator and must be paid in cash onboard.
Dive groups are capped at 10 people, and led by expert guides who prioritize both safety and exploration. Guests with advanced skills can opt to dive independently after registering at the start of the tour. A minimum of 50 dives is required, and equipment recommendations include Nitrox-capable dive computers, surface marker buoys, and current hooks. Gloves are allowed only for dives with tiger sharks to protect the delicate underwater environment. The AMBA delivers a diverse range of underwater experiences, from vibrant coral gardens to exhilarating drift dives. Whether you’re exploring manta ray cleaning stations or spotting rare macro life, every dive promises a story worth sharing. The AMBA offers EAN nitrox but does not support rebreathers or technical diving.
The AMBA liveaboard combines the Maldives' breathtaking underwater world with the comforts of a boutique hotel, making it the ideal choice for divers who value adventure, safety, and luxury. With its dedicated crew, superb amenities, and thoughtfully curated itineraries, the AMBA ensures an experience that’s as unforgettable as the marine life below the waves. Dive in and discover a new level of liveaboard excellence.
