Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa WEATHER
The resort offers plenty of dining options to choose from such as buffet style, a la carte, and bars. Meals include anything from international to local cuisine. Guests can request room service, and dinner on the beach can be arranged.
When diving with Vilamendhoo, guests can see whale sharks and manta rays all year round. There is also access to around fifty dive sites, including the House Reef. The House Reef is available for divers at any time, including during the night. Here, divers often see turtles, schools of jacks, napoleons, blacktip reef sharks, and eagle rays. At night, the guided dive tour allows guests to see sleeping turtles, parrotfish, and hunting jackfish. The resort also offers guided dives through channels and the underwater mountain is known as Thila. Guided dives also include locations known for their reef sharks, nurse sharks, silvertip sharks, and manta rays. There is even a Whale Shark National Park nearby. Snorkeling equipment and underwater cameras can be rented at the dive center. When guests aren’t diving, they can spend their time at the spa, snorkeling, on a sunset cruise, sailing, fishing, or exploring nearby islands.

Dive Conditions

The conditions are generally good all the year around Maldives. Air temperature is 26°C to 32°C year-round. The average water temperature ranges from 27°C to 30°C year-round. Divers can expect visibility from 15m to 40m depending on the season and location. The visibility is not as good during the rainy season, May to August. Currents depend a lot on tide and location, and ranges from none in the lagoon to very strong in the channels. Dive depths range from 5m to 40m. The coral reefs are shallow and most of the dive sites are between 10 and 20 meters deep.
Due to the medium to strong currents, drift dives are common. Often divers have to do a negative entry, which means the moment you enter the water, you must descend to the bottom. The Maldives is recommended for the intermediate level or experienced diver. Because of the depths and currents, dives in the Maldives are usually 45 - 50 minutes for many divers. There are many dives sites which are suitable for novice divers as well which are protected from the currents, and novice divers can do drift dives on the long reefs not affected by tricky currents.
